Small Steps to Health and Wealth“Small Steps to Health and Wealth” is a program designed to motivate participants to improve both their health and their finances. Plans are to repeat the program during Thursday noon hours from January 28, 2010 to March 25, 2010 as a live web program. Recordings of the 2009 webcasts are now available from the web site Smallsteps.unl.edu. Look for recorded sessions. Lesson materials can be downloaded from the same site. Individual lessons encourage participants to set health and/or wealth goals and take action to achieve their goals by identifying small progress steps. The program consists of two main sections: a discussion of similarities between health and personal finance issues and suggested behavior change strategies that can be applied to either area of life. The impact of health on finances and finances on health is also explored. The program concludes with a discussion of seven key health and wealth success factors: attitude, automation, awareness/knowledge, control, environment, goals, and time. Participants are encouraged to share their successes. Small Steps to Health and Wealth is part of a national program being adopted across the United States. Individuals are encouraged to register their Health and Wealth Goals as they participate in the program.
